I went back to being mainly a cameraman in the second half of the 90s filming a six part documentary series called Steven Hawkin’s Universe with Philip Martin directing then working with him on several other projects including a drama called The Wings of Angels that took us to the Galapagos Islands. I also worked on a series called Millennium a Thousand Years of History which took me travelling to some very exotic places.
Stephen Hawkin's Universe or as the Americans would have it Stephen Hawking's Universe - Directed by Phillip Martin A 6-part documentary series from arguably the greatest scientific mind in the world, the wheelchair-bound Stephen Hawking, which describes all current thinking on the Big Bang, origins of the universe, dark matter, black holes, etc. Includes interviews with leading astronomers and scientists, some commentary from the great man himself, and computer models of the theories. This was a wonderful series to work on and took us around Europe and America with Phillip Martin at the helm, made for the BBC then sold to PBS.
Millennium- A thousand Years of History - 10 hours of television - Narrated by Sir Ben Kingsley. Millennium seeks to chronicle the last thousand years throughout the world from an approach from distant museum keepers who come across our world and try to discern why the last thousand years were the ways they were throughout the world cultures, with the historical conflicts that resulted from interactions of differing peoples. This was a preposterous idea for a television series devised by Jeremy Isaacs trying to fit a Millennium into ten hours. It was however great to work on and I got to meet Chris Durlacher, Henry Chancellor and Mark Kiddel on the project as well as going to Uzbekistan, India, Morocco and Japan along with various filming in Europe including a memorable World Cup final in Paris and the Palio in Sienna
